HVAC Systems for the Oil & Gas Industry

The In-Salah Gas project is a joint venture between BP, Statoil & the Algerian company Sonatrach.

Working for Schneider Electric, Machenair were tasked with the design of bespoke HVAC systems with Atex rated components, which would work efficiently in ambient temperatures ranging from 50 degrees C to 5 degrees C. The systems also had to be resilient enough to cope with the harsh conditions of the Southern Sahara Desert.

Each system was equipped with full duty/ standby Heat Pump AHUs, Fresh Air Fans & Battery Room Extract systems with both Blast and Gas Tight Dampers. Each system was controlled via its own custom designed BMS control panel.

Our engineers installed and commissioned the HVAC system for each substation in the UK. Each system was then performance tested and validated before being de-commissioned, stripped down and transported to site in Algeria.

Our engineers then attended site in Algeria, on a monthly rotation basis, to complete the re-commissioning and site validation of each system.
